Frequently Asked Questions

How do I sign up?

Click on the tour you are interested in. At the bottom of the tour page you can select how many people you are signing up. Fill out the short form and hit the “send reservation” button.  You may also email or call us instead.

How much is the deposit?

A deposit of $500 per person is required to secure your reservation. If your trip is departing within 90 days then full payment is required.  If you book a custom trip, then payment is due 120 days prior to departure.

What payment methods do you accept?

Payment methods accepted include check, money order, or PayPal deposit in US dollars.

When do I need to register?

Registration is open up to a year before the departure date.  For best availability of the trip you desire, its best to reserve your spot at least six months in advance. Tours are kept small so secure your reservation and book your trip soon!

How many miles will I ride on the tour?

Each trip is designed to be enjoyable and comfortable. Miles are moderate and the daily range is usually between 35-50 miles. We have van support on many days if needed. On the other hand, our routes many times have longer options for strong cyclists who would like to get more miles in.

Can I bring my own bicycle? Can I rent a bicycle?

It’s up to you if you want to travel with your own bike or to rent one. If you are very short or very tall, or ride a custom frame, you will probably be most comfortable with your own bike. If you are interested in renting an aluminum or carbon fiber bike we can give you a quote for the rental fee. With airlines charging more each year to travel with a bike, it may be more economical to rent one at your final destination. And it will certainly be easier at the airports! If you decide to rent, you should consider bringing your own pedals.

Do I have to wear a helmet?

Yes, helmets are required on all rides.

Do you offer custom trips?

Yes, we love to create custom trips for our cycling clients. If you have a small family, large group, or something in between, we can accommodate you. With a minimum of two people we can customize the perfect vacation to fit your cycling ability, style, and budget. Let us know what you have in mind and we will take care of all the details. Trips can be one-day or multi-day and can include meals, lodging, transportation, guides, bikes, routes, and/or cultural activities. A custom bicycle vacation makes an ideal honeymoon for a cycling couple or an enjoyable anniversary celebration. Customized trips work well for team building activities, professionals, friends, and families.

What is the weather and terrain like in Belgium?

In Belgium the weather is typically pretty mild. During the summer and fall expect warm sunny temps and the spring can be chilly and rainy. If you dress appropriately you will be able to ride in most weather conditions year-round. Since Belgium is at sea-level you won’t have to be concerned with altitude but there are some short, steep hills to climb. There are cobblestone roads, country paths, and streets with designated bike lanes you will be on most of the time.

When does my trip start and end?

Tours generally start at 9am on the first day. The final day usually ends after breakfast and assists participants with airport transportation for flights back home.  If you want to stay longer or fly in early to extend your vacation we can help you make arrangements. Please check the specific time your trip starts and ends.

Should I get trip insurance?

Although we do not require the purchase of trip insurance, we strongly recommend it for your cycling tour. Trip insurance will reimburse you for any travel expenses or deposits that you have paid which you cannot obtain a refund for.

If your flight is delayed and you miss your connecting flight, how will you get to your tour? If you travel with your bike and the airlines damaged it, who will repair it? If your bike or helmet is missing and you can’t participate in the tour you signed up for, what will you do?

The right plan will also reimburse your costs for work-related cancelations and provide medical coverage anywhere in the world. Even if you have your own health insurance in the United States, you won’t always be covered internationally. This alone is an excellent reason to inquire about trip insurance. For around $200 you can insure your trip and have peace of mind while traveling. If you choose not to obtain trip insurance you will need to sign a waiver that you assume any financial loss you may incur, which may be higher than your original trip fee. After you sign up for a trip we can give you a no-obligation quote.

How should I prepare for my bike trip?

If you are a cyclist, continue riding weekly, and try to put on 25+ miles a week. If you do not generally ride a bicycle you may want to ride a stationary bike at the gym or try a spinning class. Any form of exercise is great cross-training.

What is included in my cycling vacation?

On each tour page you will find a tab that lists specific items included in that tour.

Generally our trips include the following: Knowledgeable guides and staff who have a passion for cycling, van support during group rides, sports drinks and bottled water, mechanical support and assistance assembling your bike, lodging in unique settings, lunches and dinners at local restaurants and pubs, transportation of luggage and bikes during the tour, secure storage of your bike when not riding it, and a small group size to make your cycling vacation enjoyable.

What is the cancellation policy?

If you cancel your reservation for any reason you must do so in writing. A minimum administrative fee of $200 will be deducted from your refund. The penalties for canceling are shown below. If you do not show up for the tour you signed up for, you forfeit the entire deposit and trip fees.

The cancelation fee is based on the first date of your tour, and is a percent of the full tour cost, per person. All cancelations will be charged a $200 administrative fee if canceling prior to 90 days of your tour. If you are cancelling your tour you must do so prior to 90 days of the first day of your tour to receive a full refund, minus the $200 administrative fee.

Cancelation 61-90 days – 25% of full trip payment
Cancelation 31-60 days – 50% of full trip payment
Cancelation 0-30 days – 100% of full trip payment

Finish Line Cycling will make every attempt to operate a trip once confirmed. We reserve the right to cancel a trip at any time due to insufficient bookings and/or reasons beyond our control. The financial liability of Finish Line Cycling is limited to the amount paid for the tour only, and will not be extended to cover other travel costs associated with the trip such as airline tickets, passport fees, travel insurance premiums, or bike related expenses.
