Watching the legendary Tour of Flanders is a monument of the European racing calendar. With its sixteen climbs and cobbled roads there’s plenty of action during this classic race. The Ronde van Vlaanderen (Tour of Flanders) is a symbol of spring. From Brugge in the north to the new finish town of Oudenaarde in 2012, it’s one of the finest races of the year.

The notorious hills of the Flemish countryside can peak at 15-20% grade. Now add some uneven cobbles, ruts, grooves, and slick mud to the mix. These unpleasant conditions make for a terrific race. Many times it’s not the actual cobbled climbs that are the problem. The riders know they need to be in the front of the pack to make it up the short, steep bergs so the “race to the base” is sometimes more dramatic then the climb itself.
