Tour of Flanders Bike Trips
The legendary Tour of Flanders is a known as the finest pro bike race on the European racing calendar. With its sixteen climbs and cobbled roads there’s plenty of action during this Flanders classic race.
The Ronde van Vlaanderen is a symbol of spring in Belgium. From Bruges in the north to the finish town of Oudenaarde, the Flemish countryside is bustling with cycling fans who all have stories about what the Tour of Flanders means to them.
The notorious hills of the Flemish countryside can peak at 15-20% gradient. Now add some uneven cobbles, ruts, grooves, and slick mud to the mix. These unpleasant conditions make for a tremendous race. Many times it’s not the actual cobbled climbs that are the problem. The riders know they need to be in the front of the pack to make it up the short, steep bergs so the “race to the base” is sometimes more dramatic then the climb itself.
During your Flanders bicycle trip watch the 2018 Tour of Flanders and ride the cobbles.
Famous cobblestone climbs you will ride
- Paterberg, max gradient 20%
- Oude Kwaremont, max gradient 11%
- Koppenberg, max gradient 19%
- Eikenberg, max gradient 9%
- De Muur Kappelmuur, max gradient 20%
Flanders Cyclo – One of a Kind Sportive Event
Your cycling tour includes a guaranteed entry into the highly-anticipated Flanders Cyclo where you will ride with 16,000 other cycling enthusiasts! You can choose from three route options which will all take you over the same route the pros race on the following day.
Ride the Ronde van Vlaanderen Cyclosportive the day before the race and climb many of the rough, cobbled sections in this year’s race. With thousands of fellow cyclists surrounding you, you will constantly be in the midst of the action. Attack on the hills. Fly down the descents. Make your way over the cobbled flat stretches which seem to last forever. The loyal locals enthusiastically cheer on the side of the road while ringing cowbells as you struggle to get up the steep cobbled climbs. The atmosphere is supportive and enjoyable, and a true accomplishment.
Climb the cobbles in Belgium – Flanders bicycle trip
A look into rich cycling heritage at the Ronde Van Vlaanderen Cycling Museum will also be a part of your bike trip. With so many interactive exhibits you will understand the magnitude of Flanders cycling history.
Rides will take place in the Flemish countryside where the geography is made of rolling landscapes and narrow roads. Climbs are steep, but short and can be completed by most cyclists. Bring your friends with you, and after your cycling vacation take home vivid memories of the brutal, odd-shaped cobbles.
There is a little something for everyone during Flanders in the Spring. If you like watching the Spring Classics, you will enjoy this beloved favorite. You will get a chance to ride the same cobbled climbs the pros do, and a guaranteed entry into the Flanders Cyclosportive. After a long day of riding the cobbles, discover a new favorite Belgian beer at one of the regional breweries!

Although we do not require the purchase of trip insurance, we strongly recommend it for your cycling tour. Trip cancellation insurance will reimburse you for any travel expenses that you have paid, and cannot obtain a refund for. If your flight is delayed and you miss your connecting flight what will you do? If you travel with your bike and the airlines damage it, what will you do? If your bike or helmet is missing and you can't participate in the tour you signed up for, what will you do?
The right plan will also reimburse your costs for work-related cancelations and provide medical coverage anywhere in the world. Even if you have your own health insurance in the United States, you won't be covered internationally. This alone is an excellent reason to inquire about trip insurance. For around $200 you can insure your trip and have peace of mind while traveling. If you choose not to obtain trip insurance you will need to sign a waiver that you assume any financial loss you may incur, which may be higher than your original trip fee.
